Documate May 2026: Instant tables & Table shortcuts

Tables got quicker to build this month. Asking for one no longer means filling in a popup, and new table shortcuts let you type the exact size straight into the slash command.

Instant tables

Picking Table used to open a popup for rows and columns first. Now type /table and a 3×3 drops straight in, ready to fill.

That covers most quick tables without you stopping to set a size.

💡 Pro tip: a 3×3 is just a starting point. Drag a border to resize a column, or add rows and columns from the cell menu as you go.

Table shortcuts

When you already know the shape, say it.

Type /3x5 for three rows and five columns, or /10x10 for the biggest grid Documate makes. Anything from 1×1 to 10×10 works.

💡 Pro tip: the shortcut reads rows then columns, so /2x6 is short and wide, /6x2 is tall and narrow.

A few more improvements

🏷 Formatted mentions: Bold, italic, underline, strikethrough and inline code all work on a mention.

🔐 Clearer session handling: If your session times out, a quick prompt gets you back in.

🛡️ Edit protection: Documate checks with you before you leave a page with edits still syncing.

👁 Read-only at a glance: A dashboard marker shows which workspaces you can only read.

📋 Cleaner markdown paste: Paste markdown, code blocks and all, and it lands clean.

What’s next?

Our team is working on some visual enhancements. We want setting a cover to be quick and easy, with plenty of choice, so your pages look as good as they read without much effort on your part. More on that soon.
