December brings a feature many of you have been asking for: moving pages between workspaces.
We’ve all been there. Someone creates a page in Workspace A. Later, it becomes clear that it should live in Workspace B. Or your org restructures, and the documentation needs to move with it.
Before today, recreating from scratch was your only option.
This month, we’re changing that with one-click page moves that preserve your entire setup—attachments, comments, hierarchies, and all.
Move pages with a few clicks
Now you can relocate any page in seconds. Hover over a page in your tree, click the “…” menu, select “Move,” pick your destination workspace, and you’re done. All attachments and comments come along automatically.
💡 Pro tip: Moving a page you’re currently viewing? Documate automatically redirects you to the new location so you can keep working without interruption.
Search speeds up workspace selection
Scrolling through 50 workspaces to find the right destination wastes time. The move dialog includes a real-time search that filters your workspace list as you type.
Type “marketing” or “team” and only matching workspaces appear. A breadcrumb at the bottom shows exactly where your page will land before you commit to the move.
💡 Pro tip: Type just a few letters to narrow down the list. The search matches any part of workspace and page names, not just the beginning.
Page hierarchies move as a unit
Got a page with subpages? They all move together automatically. No broken links, no lost hierarchy, no manual cleanup of nested content.
This turns what used to be a multi-hour reorganisation job—moving a parent page, then each child, then fixing all the relationships—into a 10-second operation.
💡 Pro tip: Check the page tree before moving to see what’s nested under your page. Everything visible in that hierarchy comes along for the ride.
