As we wrap up 2023, we’ve focused on making your documentation live alongside your ServiceNow data securely, staying automatically up-to-date, and eliminating the context switching that breaks your workflow.
This December release brings significant updates to solve the age-old problem of documentation going stale. We know how frustrating it is when your carefully crafted docs fall out of sync with your data, forcing you to constantly update tables and lists manually.
Embed ServiceNow lists in your documentation
The new ServiceNow list component brings your live ServiceNow data directly into your documentation with a clean interface, keeping your content connected to the actual data. Whether you’re displaying incident queues, user lists, or any ServiceNow data, it appears in an organised format that respects your existing ServiceNow security permissions.
Type /servicenow, select “Embed ServiceNow content”, and paste any ServiceNow URL of a list with the filter that better fits your needs. Instead of copying static data that quickly becomes outdated, Documate creates a live reference that automatically reflects changes in your ServiceNow instance.
💡 Pro tip: Try it for incident queues or user assignments that change frequently. Particularly useful in standard operating procedures where you need current data.
Enhanced list view with familiar controls
The lists include all the controls you expect: sorting, filtering, search, and pagination.
No more screenshots of tables that become outdated, no more jumping between ServiceNow and your documentation to check current information.
Say goodbye to static tables that go out of sync.
💡 Pro tip: Click the icon in any row to open the full ServiceNow record in a new tab when you need more details.
Interactive ServiceNow components
You can also add any ServiceNow component directly as an interactive window within your documents. Type /servicenow, select “Embed ServiceNow page”, and paste the URL of your roadmap, report, list, or any other ServiceNow component.
This means you can insert editable ServiceNow forms, dashboards, or any other component that your team needs to interact with, all without forcing readers to jump between applications.
💡 Pro tip: Use interactive components when you need full ServiceNow functionality in your documentation. Perfect for data that requires editing or for visualising reports.
A few more improvements
🔗 Smarter navigation: Internal Documate links now open within the app whilst external links open in new tabs, with improved visual cues including underlined text for better link visibility.
📝 Better mentions: Hover over mentioned users to see their email addresses, making it easier to identify the right person.
🎨 Visual consistency: Resize buttons, icons, and interface elements now follow consistent styling throughout the application.
📱 Improved reactions: Comment reactions now display user avatars for clearer identification.
⚡ Smoother interactions: Added subtle fade effects and improved positioning for drag-and-drop operations.
🔧 Reliability fixes: Resolved issues with content duplication during navigation, copying formatted text, and comment threading.
What’s next?
We continue making your documentation more reliable and accurate. Next month, we’ll extend this approach to display individual ServiceNow records, giving you the same automatic updates and consistent formatting for single record views.
