Documate August 2025: Audio player, Page creation shortcut & Multimedia size reset

With our August release, you can now embed audio files directly into your pages, use commands to create new pages instantly, and revert any media to its original size with one click.

Alongside these new features, we’ve made several smaller improvements to make editing more reliable.

Bring your documentation to life with audio

There are times when text and images alone don’t capture the full story. You might want to add a personal voice note to a project update, include a clip from a meeting, or provide an audio version of an article for accessibility. Now you can.

We’ve introduced a new audio player that lets you embed audio files directly into your pages. Just type /audio on a new line, paste the URL to your audio file, and it will appear as a clean, simple player that fits right in with your content. It’s a great way to make your documentation more personal and engaging for your readers.

💡 Pro tip: Try recording a short audio summary for a long page. It gives your audience a quick, convenient way to get the main points before they read the details.

Create new pages in a flash

When you’re deep in a writing session, the last thing you want to do is break your concentration to navigate through menus. Creating new pages should be a seamless part of the writing process, and now it is.

You can now use commands to create new pages instantly. Just type /page on a new line to add a page. This lets you build out the structure of your knowledge base as you write, without ever taking your hands off the keyboard.

💡 Pro tip: While commands are the quickest way to create pages as you type, you can also add new pages and subpages directly from the page menu. This gives you another convenient option when you’re organising your content.

Instantly revert content to its original size

Experimenting with the layout of your page should be worry-free. We’ve all been there: you resize an image or an embedded video, and it doesn’t look quite right. Trying to manually drag it back to its original dimensions can be tricky.

Now, you can undo any resize with a single click. From the options menu on any embedded element, you’ll find a new option to “Revert to original size”. This gives you the freedom to play with different layouts, knowing you can always get back to the default state in an instant.

💡 Pro tip: This feature is great for maintaining a consistent look across your documentation. If you’re not sure about a change, just revert it.

A few more improvements

🖼️ Better content control: Resizing images and other multimedia content is now more reliable, especially inside callout blocks. Images will always keep their correct shape.

✍️ A smoother editing experience: We’ve tidied up the behaviour of pasting text from other sources, so paragraph alignment is always handled correctly. We also adjusted the command menu to ensure it always appears above other interface elements, ready for when you need it.

🎨 Visual polish: We’ve made a few small but important visual tweaks. Tables now have a little more breathing room to separate them from other content, and we’ve fixed an issue with table header highlighting.

⚙️ Smarter page previews: When you link to another page, hovering over the link shows a preview card. We’ve fixed an issue where this card would show a cover photo even if you had disabled it on the original page. Now, the preview card accurately reflects your page’s settings.

We want your feedback!
