This April, Documate brings thoughtful improvements to how you create and work with content blocks.
We’ve enhanced the block menu with new actions and improved the placeholders for empty blocks.
Previously, the block menu was primarily used for dragging and dropping content to reorder your document. Now, it also opens a menu with useful features when clicked, combining familiar interactions with new capabilities.
Enhanced paragraph controls
We’ve enhanced the block menu with clear, organised categories for formatting options. While these style options were already available in the toolbar and slash command menus, we’ve added them to the paragraph level options to provide a more consistent editing experience.
This approach lets you modify entire blocks without needing to select all the text first, saving valuable time when restructuring documents.
💡 Pro tip: Try using the keyboard shortcut “/” while typing to quickly access the same block switching options without reaching for your mouse.
Smarter block creation options
Creating a new content block exactly where you need it is now more intuitive. The block menu now features dedicated “Insert block” options. You can quickly choose to insert content above or below your current position without disrupting your workflow.
These additions make document structuring more efficient by cutting down on the clicks needed to build out your documentation. You’ll spend less time navigating menus and more time focusing on your content.
More refinements
📝 Helpful placeholders: Empty blocks now display instructive placeholders that guide you on what to type, making it clear which block you’re editing and the actions you have available.
🎯 Visual improvements: We’ve refined placeholder visibility in headings and tables, showing them where helpful while reducing visual clutter in complex structures.
💨 Quick editing: Click directly on a placeholder to start typing immediately. The text disappears as you begin entering content.
What’s next?
Our team is working on more visual enhancements, like emoji support for workspaces and pages to help with organisation, along with native PDF viewing capabilities.
Looking further ahead, we’re also developing integrations with popular tools like Miro boards, Canva designs, and Loom videos.
